About Smitheo
Smitheo is a software studio for businesses and founders. Clients bring a problem or a spec; Smitheo finds the right solution, from AI automations and internal tools to MVPs, and builds it to save time, cut costs and keep working as they grow. We are based in Varaždin, Croatia, and work in English with clients worldwide.
Why does Smitheo exist?
We like solving other people's problems, and we like writing the code that solves them. Most businesses and founders do not come to us with a spec. They come with something that slows them down, keeps breaking or will not launch. Our job is to dig into that, find the right solution, which is not always the obvious one, and build it to last.
AI tools have changed what a small, senior team can do. Work that used to need a large team can now be done by a focused one that uses AI for speed and engineering judgement for quality. That is why problems that were never worth a big project are worth solving now.
What kind of studio are we?
We stay a studio on purpose. The engineers who scope your project are the ones who build it, so what you asked for is what gets built, and decisions stay fast.
When a project needs a skill outside our core, we say so and bring in or recommend a specialist, instead of learning it on your budget.
Why does our software keep working?
For more than ten years we delivered Adobe Experience Manager platforms for enterprise teams, where releases are reviewed, performance is measured and systems run for years. We bring the same habits to every project, whatever its size: tests for the flows that matter, secure defaults, documented handovers and code another developer can pick up. For you, that means fewer surprises after launch and no rebuild when you grow.
Why AI, and why now?
AI-assisted development and automation let a focused team deliver more in less time, and that saving reaches you as a lower cost and an earlier launch. The speed only helps if the result is reliable, so every change is reviewed by an engineer and every project ends with a clear handover. That is what "engineered to last" means in practice.
Where are we going?
Some problems come back again and again, from different businesses. When a fix we built once would help many, we turn it into a product. The Lab is where we share that work in public, including the ideas that do not make it.

Matija Kovacek is the founder and principal engineer of Smitheo. Smitheo builds on more than ten years of enterprise software and Adobe Experience Manager delivery, and brings that experience to every project: software that is tested, documented and built to keep running after launch.
Smitheo's experience spans more than ten years of enterprise software and Adobe Experience Manager delivery, from AEM 6.1 to AEM as a Cloud Service and Edge Delivery Services: development, architecture, performance work and team coaching.
